There could be anywhere between a hundred thousand to nearly a million stray cats in Mumbai suffering from a range of problems such as malnutrition, disease, and injuries from vehicles and predators. The extent to which these cats are affected depends on their age, location, whether they have a caretaker seeing to them, and other such factors.
With countless stray cats living in Mumbai, it is not feasible to remove all of them from the streets and find homes for them. Moreover, it can be detrimental to cats that are used to living outdoors to relocate them to an apartment. Stray cats that are sterilized, vaccinated and regularly fed good food by a caretaker can actually lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Hence our philosophy is that it is possible to improve the lives of stray cats in Versova through sterilization programs, feeder support, preventative care, and medical treatment. Additionally, by raising awareness of stray cats and their lives, we hope to build an enthusiastic cat-loving society that will look out for their needs. Our vision for Mumbai is a healthy and sustainable population of street cats living in harmony with people.
